Dear Judy:
Thank you so very much for your information regarding Charles G. Cotton and the 1860 Census of Effingham Co., GA. I did not have this information. I have not been able to locate information concerning the Cotton Family into which Charles G. Cotton was a member. My great, great-grandmother, Clarkie Rice Cotton-Smith-Davis married three times. I stem from her last marriage to George Davis. I am still checking the Old Barnwell District, S.C. records for any information regarding Clarkie's first marriage to ....Cotton. Many things have frustrated my search into her family: the burning of courthouse and public records during the American Revolutionary War, the War of 1812 and the Civil War in the States of Hanover Co., Virginia; Old Barnwell District, S. C.; Darien, GA; and Washington,D. C. I put the study away for many years prior to the advent of the Internet because I could not locate primary records on Clarkie's family. Thank you very much. I am so far away from Savannah and Its records. Your assistance is greatly appreciated. Carole Heffernan Melson, Marietta, GA.
