Your help with my family history is greatly appreciated. Clarkie Rice Cotton-Smith-Davis married and survived three husbands. She married....Cotton first. Secondly, she married John Y. Smith in December, 1836 in Savannah, GA. In Feb 1842 she married George Davis in Savannah. It is the Cotton marriage that I need in order to ascertain her parentage/maiden name. I know that she lived in Springfield because many years ago I went through the Courthouse and found records bearing her name. I think that Charles G. Cotton and his sister, Mary Ellen Cotton (Mrs. John Mackie), spent time and/or may have been born in the Cathead District of Darien, GA; but Darien's public records have been lost due to fire. By the way, Charles G. Cotton married Mrs. Mary Sloan on 20 November 1867 (Marriages of Chatham Co., Vol. I and Vol II, Georgia Historical Society. Charles's marriages to Miss Georgia J. Gnann in 1859 and his subsequent marriage to Mrs. Mary Sloan in 1867 are in Volume II.)Thank you very much for your kindness and assistance.
