I have only just started researching my family history but I think I have a Margaret Goat of Birkenhead in my family on my mother's side. I'm currently sending away for BMD certificates to confirm this so I might be completely wrong!

Anyway, the Margaret Goat I think was my great, great grandmother was born in Birkenhead in approx 1882. Her mother was Mary J Goat and her brother was Robert J Goat, both also born in Cheshire. They are on the 1901 census, living together in Birkenhead.

Margaret went on to marry Joseph Wolfson in Liverpool in 1903. Joseph was a Polish Jew living in Liverpool and they had 5 children -
Annie Rachel Wolfson (my grandmother)
Rose Wolfson
Gabriel Wolfson
Liela Wolfson
Esther Wolfson

Annie Rachel married William Bateman and gave birth to my mother Ruth who went on to marry a Raymond Costello from Wirral via Wolverhampton.

Margaret Goat's father was dead by the 1901 census so I am looking for his name and the names of his parents. Hoping to find him on the 1881 census when I get chance.

Clare Costello
