There is a David Gobin born about 1844 in Illinois. I wonder if he might be the one you are looking for? He appears in the 1850 US Census for Coles Co. Illinois (Charleston District, pp. 33-34):
GOBIN, James 57 m miller VA
Abigail 61 f Delaware
B.R. 37 m OH
Abigail 35 f PA
Sarah E. 11 OH
David 6 IL

I interpret this census record to be that David is probably the son of B.R. and Abigail Gobin, who are living with James and Abigail Gobin. B.R. would be Bowen R. Gobin, born about 1814 in Ohio, who married Abigail Lewellen in 1836 in Butler Co. Ohio. I don't have any additional information on David -- only that he appears in this census record.
