I know I have read about the Godfrey/Godsey idea, but it never sounded reasonable to me. In the old style of writing, "s" looked like "f," not vice versa. It just never made sense that "Godsey" would somehow be misread as "Godfrey."
So I'm not surprised there doesn't seem to be any kind of genetic concordance.
Also, you have these two orphaned boys coming from England with a Huguenot family to settle in a Huguenot settlement in Virginia. I can't imagine why a Huguenot family would take on two orphaned English boys and pay expensive passage for them to the Colonies, etc. It seems far more likely they were someone's orphaned nephews, doesn't it?
If I had the time and money I would research in France. This was before the Edict of Nantes was revoked (I think - would have to check) and there was a mass exodus of Huguenots from France. I have read that the ones who left earlier tended to be a little wealthier. England was a safe haven, though, and the names were often anglicized.
I haven't kept up on this in awhile, so these are really just random thoughts.
