My grandfather Lyphus Greene Helton told us that his "family" lived in a house that was inundated when Reelfoot Lake was created. He was born in Caldwell, Missouri. His father's name was Thomas Greene Helton, his mother was Nancy Lee. She was Cherokee. Thomas and Nancy Lee had five children who grew to adulthood. The boys being named after Civil War officers since Thomas was too young to enlist with his older brothers. Thomas' family lived outside Spartanburg, SC. at the time. Thomsa apparently fled with his sisters, as many did, not to return home, because it was destroyed. Any way to find out how we fit into this?
