I am a descendant of George Washington Gold who was born in Alabama in 1825. I don't know who his father was but I think his mother was Cintha. George had a son named William W., who had a son named William. These Golds are in southern Illinois around 1840. Do you know of any connection? I have received help from the historical societies in some of the counties of Al, but they don't show Gold on the census in 1820's or 1830's. I have some Golds on the 1820 censuses in some of the Al counties. I'll check them out for a William and respond.
