Barbara, it's Joe rather than John. I don't know at this time what Frances' last name was as there was a Christopher involved with the family as well a Griffin and many descendants of Daniel have been named Christopher from his first son on. In Mecklenburg County Virginia in the 1800's there were several Griffins and Golds married. Pleasant Daniel Gold says Griffin and right now I see no reason to dispute it. The Cleveland Memorial Library in Shelby has a copy if it hasn't been stolen; they have had some trouble with that. I also have a copy of Pleasant Daniel's book.
