John, I am not sure of the 1857 death of a Janet Frame as to where she fits in the puzzle. I have the 1841census records and 1851 census records of my ggg grandfather William Smellie Frame (Smallie Frame) who lived at 5 Union St, Hamilton. He died on 17.3.1860 aged 57 and I have copies of his Death Cert. He was a stone mason and also a publican and he was buried in Hamilton Parish Churchyard. Smellie Frame married 4 times that we know of all in Hamilton Parish Register. First was to Jean McClintock 5.11.1826 and they had a daughter Margaret born in1830(Have no further record of Second marriage was to Mary Rankine on 8.9.1833 (no record of any children). Third was to our ggg grandmother Janet King and on 1841c there was Smallie Frame and wife Janet William aged 8,Margaret aged 4, Janet aged 2 and John aged 4 mts. (John 4mts is my gg grandfather whose eldest son was called William Smellie Frame - my great grandfather)
4th Marriage was to Ann Weir (also known as Agnes) on 17.11.1850. Ann Weir(40) was on the 1851census with Smallie Frame(46) at 5 Union St. and their children Janet 14, Margaret 12 andJohn 10. The girls reversed.
Ann Weir raised the family alone after 1860 and on the 1861 census she is at same address with Margaret aged 20 as Janet had married James Gold in Dec, 1861. Margaret married John Dalziel on 6.3.1863. John married Marion Wilson in 1862 at Liverpool. I have no further record of William (8 on 1841Census).
On the 1881 census Ann Frame (nee Weir) aged 70 and Janet Dalziel grand daughter aged 16 werer at Union St, Hamilton and Ann Frame was still there aged 79 on 1891c. She died in Tradestown Glasgow in 1895.
PARENTS OF William Smellie Frame (Smallie Frame on census and Smellie Frame in Parish Registers) were stated on his DC as William Smellie Frame and Janet Smellie. We have never found this couple but a John Frame married Janet Smellie in Hamilton in 1797 and we strongly suspect that an error was made on the cert. Hope this is helpful. Would love to see the photo of your g grandfather and do you have photos of any other Frame ancestors? Heather in Oz.
