John, just thinking about the Mason explanation. Smallie Frame was a mason as in stone mason but of course this is where the masonic lodge originated too. Our Frame family were also Freemasons which has very similar principles and faith and there has been a sort of story handed down that he helped to build the Hamilton Mausoleum for the Duke of Hamilton. If you have not looked at this, check it out on the internet as it is very interesting, built around 1840's. There were many stone masons in Hamilton at that time. The Mausoleum contained a lot of Masonic symbolism. Would like to be able to write and exchange photos. My dad's sister recalled visiting the Gold family in Glasgow when she was a child possibly around 1910 - 1920's era. Our great grandfather William Smellie Frame wrote that the family had been Covenanters and this would be quite true. I have looked up the website for Orange lodge. Do you know which lodge your grandfather belonged to? Heather.
