I have come across a Victorian album of Cartes de Visite and Cabinet cards with Scottish connections, particularly for the surnames Bowie and Scotland.
But someone has annotated a lot of the photos (I would guess in the mid C20th) with names and relationship to a C L Gold - e.g. "William Bowie (Uncle Willie to C.L.G.)"
I am trying to trace who CL Gold was, and hence some of the other names in the album. Of particular note is a photograph of Catherine Lockerbie Harlow, which is the name of the wife of Ernest Gold who went on to become Fellow of the Royal Society.
Anyway, I finally got around to copying all the photographs from the album and have posted them at http://www.whatsthatpicture.com/?q=gallery&g2_itemId=2842 I have been through this album and added name details to all those pictures that are annotated in some way. I have yet to check every item, card back etc, so there may be more, but I think this will be the majority.
By way of background, What's That Picture? is a new site I am developing (to be launched in a month or so) aimed specifically at helping people to identify photographs, be they of people, places, or objects.
You can find out more information via the home page at http://www.whatsthatpicture.com
Hope this is of interest, and I'd love to find out who these people were, and would love to think that someone out there with family connections would find this album a unique treasure.
