Your inquiry got me to take a Look at the Census and I found a curious thing. Thomas Gold and family are listed on the 1830 Jackson Co., AL Pg 92A. David is the 10-15 male and Peter is the 5 to 10 male. Michael's widow would likely be the 70-80 female since William Holland and wife are two lines above on the same page. Nancy, Jane and Polly are the three girls. But, Who is the 20-30 male and the 0-5 male? Did Michael have a 5th son b. circa 1801 perhaps? Did Thomas have a 3rd son? The only other possibility would be if it is one of Nancy's brothers - but why wouldn't he be in William's Household?
In 1840 the family is on Page 28A. It appears William Holland has moved in with them. There is 1 80-90 female, which would be the possible wife of Michael rather than William's wife (if living she should be 70-80). The unknown adult male is no longer in the household, but the now 10-15 male is still there. Peter is still indicated there as the as 15 to 20 male and David as the 20 to 30 male.
They are on Page 85A in 1850. Peter 27 has wife Elizabeth A 22 children Mary 9 Thomas 7 Elijah 6 William 2 David 1. Elizabeth must be a 2nd wife unless she had Mary at age 13 - possible but not likely.
