I subscribe to the Poteau paper from Poteau Oklahoma and every week they have a page from the past. I always try to post them in the hopes that it helps someone in their search for family history. On this page from the past dated February 12, 1948 I found the following obituary:

Mrs. Cecil Gold Dies Monday in Fort Smith. Mrs. Sallie Gold, wellknown Poteau citizen, died in a Fort Smith hospital Monday after a long illness.

A native of Tennessee, Mrs. Gold came to this community in 1917 and had been very active in church and civic affairs for the past 25 years. She was organist for the First United Methodist Church, pianist for the Rotary club since it was organized, and a member of several social and study clubs.

She took a prominent part in local music circles and was well known throughout this area.

Mrs. Gold is survived by her husband, Cecil; two daughters, Mrs. Caswell Neal, Norman Oklahoma, and Mrs. James LeSage, Los Angeles, California; and two brothers, Sam Squires, Chattanooga, Tennessee, and Claud Squires, Detroit, Michigan.

Funeral services were held at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at the First United Methodist Church with Reverend J.O. Whitworth, Muskogee, officiating. Pallbearers were Sam Sorrels, Cecil Sanders, Bosley Johnson, Jimmy Orr, Bud Saviers and Frank Young.

Burial was in Oakland cemetery with Miller Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
