DANIEL GOLD, 1768-1851; Mecklenburg Co.

In the Gold Generations book by Pleasant Daniel Gold, I believe there is mention of Daniel Gold operating a ferry across the Roanoke River called Dan's Ferry. (This was before he moved to NC.) Tradition claims the Dan River was named after him.

Can anyone give proof as to whether this is true or not?

Also, would anyone know where to obtain a copy of the Generations book?
