Starting Sept. 30, 2014, Genealogy.com will be making a big change. GenForum
message boards, Family Tree Maker homepages, and the most popular articles
will be preserved in a read-only format, while several other features will
no longer be available, including member subscriptions and the Shop.
The Daniel Gold that opperated the Ferry across the Dan River was Daniel Gold 1734-1793. He was son of Daniel Gold 1708-? and father of Daniel Gold 1769-1847 of N.C.. It is highly possible that the river was named for one of the two older Daniels. The L.D.S. church has a copy of Gold Generations in America by Daniel Pleasents Gold and a copy of The Gold Family by Fred and Peter D. Gold. I copied pages from them. Unfortunatly those two sources are a little different and miss that proper age and date of death of Daniel of N.C., they are a good place to start but I would suggest you recheck what they have done as I am in the process of doing.
