Here's what I know....
My ggg grandfather was William Golden, born in 1823. We first find him in Allegany County, Maryland in an 1850 census.Living next door to him was John Golden and his wife Maria Golden.According to this census, John Golden was about 48, so that would have made him born around 1802.We believe that this John and William Golden were brothers.John and his wife Maria had the following children;Rachel, William, John, Rebecca Frances and Mary.
At first we thought John might be William's father due to the age difference but then noticed that John's first son was named William and it wouldn't make sense for him to have two sons with the name William. However we are sure they are related due to the fact that in later census's we found of William Golden (living in west virginia), we also found a couple of John's children above living with him.William's first born son, William H. Golden ended up moving north into Pennsylvania.
We then recently ran across a death notice found for Anna Maria Golden-Leach stating she was born Anna Maria Sherwood. It stated she was first married to a "Joseph" Golden of Allegany County, who died in 1853 of Cholera and married a Joseph (Lech/Leach) and had add'l children with him.It listed surviving children to be John and William Golden of Somerset Co and Bedford Co.I then did census checks for those two counties and found your John Golden and another William Golden in Bedford Co.As I looked at the names of their offspring...they were similar to the names in our family as well.Charles,William H., John, Edgar, etc...
I'm trying to locate member's of these families to find out what they might know about this John (possibly Joseph) Golden and who his father might have been.
I have more specific information I can give you.If you'd like to e-mail me directly at [email protected], I'd be happy to correspond with you through e-mail.
