GOLDTHORP _ Percy Talbot . Percy passed away gently and peacefully on Thursday, March 10, 2005, in his 93rd year. He was born in 1912 in Blackpool, England to Percy Dodds Goldthorp and Martha Lobley. As a young boy, he enjoyed playing cricket and helping his father at the family business. After his father's early death, his mother bravely set sail on the Letitia in 1927, moving him and his sister Betty, to Toronto Ontario. As a young man in the Toronto area, he began his life long interest in aviation and built and flew many model airplanes. He owned his own motorcycle and toured the Ontario countryside with friends from the local motorcycle club. During this time he met and married his first wife Margaret Gourlay and they were later blessed with three sons. Early in life he was an active member of the Masonic Lodge and the Anglican Church. He worked as a printer, and industrial tool sales manager, but his most satisfying employment was manufacturing aircraft in the 1950s for AVRO Aircraft in Malton, Ontario, where he was part of the team who built the famous AVRO Arrow. He moved to Vancouver, British Columbia in 1965, to marry his second wife, Dorothy Oliver. He was an avid gardener but was best known to all as a home inventor and builder of tools who could fix just about anything. He enjoyed playing the piano, crossword puzzles over tea, Saturday Night hockey, and traveling abroad. He is preceded in death by his father Percy, mother Martha, first wife Margaret, second wife Dorothy, and sister Betty Wilson. He is survived by three sons, David (Ruth) Goldthorp of Ottawa, Ontario, Richard Goldthorp of Campbellford, Ontario, and Douglas (Laurie) Goldthorp of Bellingham Washington; four grandchildren, Michael (Sandra) Goldthorp of Ottawa, Susan (Ron) Machin of Michigan, and Kyle and Jessica Goldthorp of Seattle, Washington; and five great-grandchildren, Christine and Steven Machin of Michigan, and Taylor, Cameron, and Curtis Goldthorp of Ottawa. A chapel memorial service and reception to celebrate Percy's life will be held at 2:00PM, Thursday, March 17, 2005, at the Forest Lawn Funeral Home, 3789 Royal Oak Avenue, Burnaby, BC. In lieu of flowers, the family would greatly appreciate donations be sent to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of British Columbia, 302-1212 West Broadway, Vancouver, BC.
