Well now that's interesting!
My orphan John's father was called William (his mother was Euphemia)and if John followed the old Scottish custom his first son would have been called William after his father. His second daughter would have been probably called Euphemia. Let me know what you can find out, and please send me the URL for the Canadian Gollans site. Haven't been able to find John as yet on the 1891 census online, but the name may have been mispelt.
