I just heard from a genealogy buff who specializes in saints. The Gonella now being considered for sainthood was named Petrus Gonella, not Dom. The name Dom was probably derived from Don, meaning priest or father.
It seems that Petrus Gonella was a diocesan priest of Antignano d'Asti. He was born 9-14-31 and died 12-28-79. His cause for beatification/canonization was only opened in 1988, so he isn't declared venerable yet and he would be referred to as the Servant of God Gonella. His cause has been entered in Rome, but one would probably get most information by writing to the diocese there in Antignano d'Asti.
