Reeves Martin, the son of William Martin and Frances Goode Martin, was my ggggrandfather. He died intestate in August of 1846 in Edgefield County, SC. According to the probate record his wife at the time was Lucinda Burns Martin, the mother of my gggrandfather, Lafayette Martin. There were also older children listed who were the children of Reeves Martin by his first wife, his cousin Sarah Goode Martin. She was the daughter of Samuel Martin, a brother to Frances Goode Martin. I have found reference to a Reeves Martin, Sr. and a Reeves Martin, Jr. in two sources, a land record and a listing of customers of a store, however, I can find no other reference indicating that the Reeves Martin who died in 1846 had a son named Reeves. I believe that his children by his cousin Sarah Goode were Ann Martin Williams, Frances Martin Caldwell, Ursula Martin and Freeman Goode Martin. They were all listed in the probate record along with my gggrandfather Lafayette and 3 younger children. I have also found reference to these older children in several other sources. Can you or anyone else shed some light on this mystery?
