Hi Belva,

There are a lot of Mackerness Goodes which makes things very confusing..........I know that our Frances Goode Martin Edwards had a brother named Samuel because they are both mentioned in the will of their father Mackerness who died in Edgefield in 1795. Other children of this Mackerness Goode are mentioned also, but none of them were named Mackerness. Sarah Goode Martin's father, Samuel Goode, died in Edgefield in 1801. Reeves Martin was an executor. I had assumed that this was Samuel Goode, son of Mackerness and brother of Frances, particularly since it was not unusual for first cousins to marry during this time, but perhaps Sarah Goode Martin's father was from another line.
