The Richard Goode who is listed as son in the will of Thomas was not Major Richard Goode. The Major died in 1801. Thomas and Mary Reynold Goode's Richard was still living in 1819. It's believed he never married.

This is from the pension of Major Richard's widow:

Aff. of "The Widdow" Martha Blackburn Stokes Co., NC. She well remembers that Gray Bynum, J.P., married her cousin Richard Goode and her brother Thomas Goode on the same day, Richard to Rebecca Young, daughter of Benjamin Young, and her brother to Nancy Beazley in either 1776 or 1778.

Martha was a daughter of Thomas and Mary Reynolds. This therefore, proves that Major Richard was the nephew of Thomas.

But I do see a dilemma: Thomas does not mention son John in his will. I've never seen the actual text to John's will. I've always thought it odd that he would mention his dead father.

But I'm confused. Is the John who died in Lincoln county not your John?

It's believed that some of the Goodes in MO had come there from KY with three Cooley brothers. Mathias Cooley (James, John) went to Jack county TX by about 1860.

I have some notes at . Although I'm interested in the Goodes to the extent that they were associated with the Cooleys for more than a half century, my research has been limited.
