Goodenows in America in 1600s
My Perry family history, written in 1937 by Charles M. Perry, includes the following about the Goodenow family:
"Edmund Goodenow was born about 1612 in England.
He emigrated with his wife Anne and 2 sons in 1638 in the ship Confidence.
He was a proprietor of Sudbury in 1638 and freeman May 13, 1640.
He was selectman in 1641 and representative in 1645 & 1650.
During the absence of Capt. Pelham in England, he was commander of the Sudbury band or miilitia with the rank of Lieut.
He was a commissioner to try small cases and a surveyor.
He died Apr 6, 1688 and was buried in the old grave yard in Wayland, once a part of Sudbury.
His wife died Mar 6, 1675, aged 67.
Hannah (or Anne) Goodenow was dau of Edmund and Anne.
She was born Nov 28 1639 and married James Pendleton Apr 29, 1656.
