The Fredericton 'Capital' states that a Frenchman named GOODINE met with a horrible accident on Thursday morn. He was employed by Charles SMITH, lumber operator, in the woods near Coldbrook, Miramichi and was in company with some of the rest of the camp in the act of tree chopping. While a heavy monarch of the forest was being felled, he and one or two of his comrades were standing a short distance. The trees in descending struck a small stump hard by, one of the men crying instantly "run, boys run". Mr. Goodine was the hindmost man and he in the act of fleeing was struck by the stump below the back of the neck. The blow seperated his head from his body, killing him instantly. The body of the deceased was immediately conveyed to Fredericton.
Would anyone have more information on this article, like his first name. I'm hoping someone from the Miramichi might find it in one of their papers.
