Bennett died 18 Sept 1823, Warren Co., KY. On 23 April 1849, wife Sally made an affidavit concerning his service in order to get a widow's pension. She stated he had gone into service in 1780 under Capt. James Mason and was in battle at Guilford. Son James also made affidavit he had often heard his father talking with other old soldiers about the war. The govt. denied the pension. Reason? Perhaps because she had no proof of marriage or service.
