Bennet Goodrum's widow when applying for a pension because of the Revolutionary War service of Bennet Goodrum, stated that he enlisted in 1780 and served at various times, amounting to over 4 months, as Private with the Virginia Troops under Captain James Mason. He was in the battle of Guilford Courthouse. The claim was not allowed because Sally could not produce their wedding certificate or Bennet's discharge papers as they had been lose in a fire. This information came from the National Archives.
