George Goodrum c.1800-1852/Virginia
Posted by: William Goodrum Date: June 23, 1999 at 06:25:13

I am looking for information on the following George Goodrum from Virginia. Specifically, I like to know who his parents were and where they came from.

George Goodrum
(Born 1800, Died 1852)

The records I have state that he was born in Virginia. There are no records of his parents as of yet. It states that George was born there, grew to manhood, and then married a woman named Lucy Herbert Cocke (1809 - ? ). They were married on December 14, 1825. Lucy was a native of Halifax, Virginia. Lucy's parents were John Ruffin Cocke (July 5, 1783 - September 1827) and Mary Coleman Scott (1787 - October 7, 1857) As a young couple, they moved to Greene County, Alabama. Lucy's mother Mary traveled and lived with them after her husband died in 1827. George's occupation in Greene County (later called Greensboro) was a planter. Apparently, George and Lucy had several children, but the only two known about are William Goodrum, and John Claborne Goodrum, Sr. They both relocated to Lonoke, Arkansas and I am descended from his son William and am George's Great-Great-Great-Great Grandson.
