Robert Goold/Gould in Hull, MA ca. 1663/4
Robert Goold/Gould and his siblings John (Gould) and Thomas (possibly a cousin) arrived in Hull, Massachusetts ca. 1663/4 to take control of the holdings of their widowed, childless cousin (aunt?), Joan Bishop Stone, widow of John Stone. The house Robert shared with Joan was still standing in 1975.I am a direct descendant of Robert's brother, John, who moved to Connecticut (and married Sarah Axtell, possibly the daughter of Daniel Axtell, regicide), became a tailor, moved to Long Island, New York and, later, to Caldwell, NJ, where he gave a plot of land on which the First Presbyterian Church of Caldewell, New Jersey was built. The researchers before me failed to identify where in England the Goold/Gould brothers came from; we suspect either Dorset or Somerset, but that is by no means certain. The Stones were from Netherbury, Dorsetshire, a clue, but not certain.I am looking for other descendants of the Goold/Gould brothers, including those who are descended from Thomas, about which I know virtually nothing other than, per legend, he moved to Charlestown, Massachusetts some time after 1665.I am also looking for any information that may tie us to English or other European origins.I can be reached at stanhelen (at) suscom (dot) net.
