Lee,
I've found that the parents of Dudleys' wife is supposedly Samuel P. Goolsby who married Judith Stephens in Oglethorpe County, Georgia on 17 June 1799. They had two children, one child being Elizabeth (wife of Dudley Bishop) and Samuel H. who married Emily ( Emity?) Leprester on 8 January 1834 in Wilkes County, Georgia.
An interesting side note is that Samuel P. was convicted of "inveigling" (it is in the dictionary !!) and was sentenced to 5 years in the Georgia State Penetentiary. His sentence was handed down on 10 March 1817 and he was pardoned on 15 April 1820. Prison records show that he was convicted in Greene County, Georgia. He was born in Virginia in 1763 (54 years old) and that he was a tailor by trade. He was 5 ft. 8 1/2 inches tall, dark hair, dark complected and had grey eyes.
County records indicate that Samuel was periodically in and out of trouble with the law and seems as though the powers that be finally got tired of him.
The Georgia State Penetentiary was the first state to have a penetentiary and Samuel P. was its very first inmate. What a claim to fame !!!
His father was either John Goolsby (married to Catey) or possibly his brother William. Betsey (Elizabeth) Bishop appears in John Goolsbys will in Oglethorpe County, Georgia in 1825 as the daughter of Samuel Goolsby, but does not state that she is his grandaughter. I need to do a bit more work on this.
Thanks for the info you sent on your family earlier this year.

Steve
