Decatur County Journal-Iowa
Thursday, March 3l, l92l

CYNTHIA ANN OWENS, the daughter of AUGUSTUS FOSTER and ELIZA OWENS, was born in Greene County, Indiana, April first, l848, and departed this life March 20th, l92l, being seventy-two years, eleven months and nineteen days of age. In l856 she came with her parents from Indiana and settled on a farm northwest of Clio. On July 27th, l875, she was united in marriage to JOSIAH GORDEN and to this union were born four children, one son and three daughters.

In the spring of l890, they moved from Wayne County, Iowa, to Decatur County and settled on a farm in Woodland Township on which they resided until the time of her death.

She has gone to meet her departed husband, who preceded her in death, June first, l905. Early in life she was converted and united with the Highland Baptist Church of which she has been a faithful member. She leaves to mourn her loss one son and three daughters, two sisters and one brother and a host of other relatives and friends to mourn her loss. Truly a great woman in Israel has fallen.

The golden gates were open wide,
A gentle voice said, "Come;"
An angel from the other side,
Welcomed our loved one home.

Funeral services were held at Big Springs Church, conducted by Rev. Chas. W. Reeder, of Leon, March 22nd, and the remains were laid to rest in the cemetery adjoining the church.
