Hi, I was told that six bros came to america at the same time and when they got here they agreed to spell thier name with an en so wherever they went they would know they were related.

Then my dau. read that after the war between Britain and Scottland some of the Gordens went to Britain and were given land and became the royal guard for the king and they changed the spelling to en from on.
Who knows for sure?
Billie
