Hi Catherine.
I can now say with some degree of cetainty that Thomas and Ann Gornall, who feature in your tree, are my great grandparents, and their son, George, b. 1872, is my grandfather, which would make maria my great aunt.
I am not sure that you are quite right about the next bit (i.e. John Gornall as widower in 1891 and living elsewhere in Lancashire.) According to the 1891 census records at st. helens library, in 1891, Ann Gornall was then head of household (i.e. John had died) and was living at 5, johnson St. St. helens, with son John and his wife and 2 children (Henry & thomas), and with George and Peter both still unmarried at that time and lviing at home. Maria by this time does not feature at this address. 2 other Gornall sons, Thomas and Richard, were also living in st. helens at this time at 54 and 56 park Rd.
George Gornall married Nancy hill in 1897 and my father, percy Gornall, was their second child, born 1899. first son, Edwin, died in the First World War. Their third son, George (my uncle) lived in St. helens all his life, and had one son George (my cousin) with whom I am still in touch, and who also has a son, george.
Hope this is interesting and/or useful to you.
Best wishes,
pearl
