Catherine:Your post mentions your UK BMD Gornall database.. maybe you can help (I certainly need it!).My wife's g-grandmother was born Elizabeth Gornall b Preston circa 1835/1841 - she married (or maybe didn't!) a gentleman(/gentlemen?) surname Robinson and had 2 daughters Elizabeth b1869 and Mary Ann b1874.... Elizabeth's father on her birth cert was William Robinson, but was John Robinson on her marriage cert. Mary Ann's father was Isaac Robinson on her marriage cert. IGI has an Isaac Robinson/Eliz Gornall marriage in 1856, and I can't find any BMD Index entry for a William or John marriage. Elizabeth (snr) re-married in 1878 (to Henry Clayton) - the marriage cert identifies her father as John Robinson!!!The 1871 Census has Elizabeth Robinson (mother & child) living with her parents (according to the Census entry) John & Elizabeth Whittaker.... implying that Elizabeth (Gornall snr) was widowed and remarried John Whittaker - I've not been able to find this re-marriage. All of the above happened in Preston. So the questions are:
1. Have you got any record of Eliz Gornall marriages to Isaac, William or John Robinson 1855 - 1874?
2. Have you got any record of John Whittaker / Eliz Gornall marriage 1840 - 1871?
3. Have you got any record of Eliz Gornall birth 1837 - 184? (mother Elizabeth?)
I've got a feeling that this will run and run!!!
Regards
