hello...i'm trying to correctly place Henry Gosnold in my genealogy, but there are some missing pieces...please add in or correct what i have so far...
1. John Gosnold (b.1440),had son
2. John Gosnold (1470-1510/m. Katherine Kebell), had son
3. Robert Gosnold, "the elder",(1490-1572/m.(1)Agnes Hill, 1524, and (2) Anne Doggett/Bacon, 1574...(this date, listed as 1574, isn't possible since Robert died in 1572!!), had son,
4. Robert Gosnold, "the younger",(1512-1559/m. Mary Vesey, b. 1516), had son,
5. John Gosnold (1537-1583/m. c.1560 to Katherine Kinnelmarch (b. c.1540); his descendents are unclear, but John was "probably" the father of Captain Robert Gosnell (note name change) who married a "Gray", and Henry Gosnold, Esq. in the Queen's Court who emmigrated to Ireland in 1596..
****THIS IS WHERE THE GENEALOGY TREE BECOMES CONFUSING AND INCOMPLETE****,
had son,
6. Henry Gosnold,Q.C.(c.1563-1658,with date of death also listed as 1647?)/m.(1)Willgiford___ and (2)Catherine Fenton, (c.1630, so his 2nd marriage was at age 57?),
Henry was in the foreign service with the British crown and was appointed to be Chief Justice of Munster...he app. maticulated at Cambridge in 1577 and had a very large family), had son,
7. John or Nathaniel Gosnold/Gosnell (b. c.1640-50/d.1728 in Coolenageagh/m. Anne Hayes ...
THIS IS WHEN THE NAME CHANGES FROM GOSNOLD TO GOSNELL, and the offspring settle in the Munster area of Co. Cork.. these Irish GOSNELL'S then emmigrated to Bandon, Skibbereen, Sherkin Island, and eventually America/Canada...John (or Nathaniel) had a son,
8. John Gosnell/Goslin (b. ?late 1600's/d.1760/m. Mary Hayes, had son,
8.Samuel Gosnell (c.1700-1781/m. Eleanor Bennett of Clonakilty), had son
9.John Gosnell(1720-1786)lived in Gullaine, Co. Cork, had son,
10.John (c.1745-?1785/m. Sarah ?)...they moved from Gullaine to Sherkin Island c. 1761 and died young, leaving "their offspring of 7 sons and sister Sarah" to be raised by family...it is said there were over 99 cousins on Sherkin Island to help raise them!!!...Sarah Gosnell was my ggg gm (she was the "sister Sarah", b.1777/d.?) and married John Sheehan c. 1795...their 3 children were Catherine, ? and my gg gm Sara (1807-1891)...they then emmigrated c. 1841 to Orford Twp. (now Highgate), Kent Co., Ontario, Canada and started the "Gosnell settlement" there...

Can anyone confirm these Gosnells are really a descendant of Henry, 1st cousin to Bartholomew, or is it just a legend that's been carried on for generations???..
Thanks so much for any info at all
dorothy kay
