My Gosnold/Gosnell ancestry begins with my 2nd great grandmother born 20 Jun 1819 in County Cork, Ireland. On her tombstone at the Singhampton Union Cemetery Singhampton, Ontario the name is Elizabeth Bess Gosnell. She married Moses Taylor b. 16 Mar 1818 in either Belfast or Downpatrick, County Down, Ireland. Elizabeth was the child of Joseph and Ester (Morgan) Gosneld/Gosnold. I believe Elizabeth's father was Joseph was born at Rath, Baltimore, County Cork, Ireland sometime around or after 1789. As I understand it, his descendants that immigrated to Canada later changed the spelling to Gosnell. They settled among kinsmen, the Gosnells of Highgate, Ontario, who were descendants of Lawrence and Catherine (Salter) Gosnell and Joseph and Mary (Webb) Gosnell from Sherkin Island, County Cork, Ireland. Does any of this sound familiar to anyone? I'm trying to find the names of the spouses for Joseph (or John) Gosnold abt 1764/1766. He died 18 Jul 1892. Her first name, I believe, was Sarah. They had three children: Joseph (abt 1789) Mary Ann (abt 1808) and Joseph (George) Gosnold (b. 1809). I'm also looking for John Gosnold (b. 1745) in Gullane in Baronry of East Carberry, Parish Ross, Ireland who also married a Sarah. They had 7 sons and 1 daughter. As I understand it, they immigrated to Orford Twp., Kent Co., Ontario, CAN in 1819. I would greatly appreciate it if anyone can help me fill in the gaps here, including dates, maiden names for the spouses, and perhaps there is someone out there who knows the parents of John Gosnold (1745). Thank you, Myrna Notify Administrator about this message?
