Charles GOTOBED - 1850-1904

I am trying to link together potential father and son named Charles GOTOBED - Charles [elder] living in the 1851 Census at Bottisham Cambs aged 1, and Charles George [younger] then marrying in 1903/1904 to another GOTOBED in Horningsea Cambs. But in between, I believe Charles [elder] was in the Grenadier Guards. As Charles George [younger] appears nowhere in the 1901 census, I wonder if he too was in the army (overseas) at that time The trouble is that indicated birth years and places are inconsistent in the 1851 and 1881 censuses, and there were at least four or five Charles GOTOBED's in and around Cambridgeshire at this time. I would be grateful for any information linking any Charles GOTOBED to any other GOTOBED during this period [1850-1904].
