Casto/Goucher connection?

For many years now I & other relatives have looked for the family of my gr gr grandfather, John G.Casto. According to legend he left home when he was 14 and rarely discussed his early life. In the mid 1830's he was SW Missouri were he would live for the next 60 years. We knew he was born in W. Virginia, but only in the last 10 years or so have we learned that he was born in Wood county in 1805. There werent any Casto people there at that time, and we have never been able to place him any known family. Just lately I learned from a cousin that she had heard years ago from an elderly aunt that he may not have been a Casto, but a Goucher. There was a William Goucher or Gougher family in Wood county in the early 1800's, last showing up in the 1830 census, with his wife Sarah as head of household. I have read some posts on the net that suggested she may have been a Casto. We may never know why or even if John Casto would have changed his name, but if anyone has any information about the William Goucher family in Wood county, I would appreciate them contacting me. David E. Casto
