Thank you for publishing that picture.Of course, if you're an Ohio Goudy, and that line really IS the brother to my William (which we believe), it is a bit watered down to recognize features.
I held my William Porter Anderson Gowdy's wedding picture up to theirs and the things that are in common are so Scottish, it's cheating to say they're the same.
James was assuredly a redhead with a very nice widow's peak to his hair and brushed his hair straight back. It's possible your family had the same hairline, but just brushed their hair to the side.He had the same high forehead and straight browline. However, his nose is narrower with a blunt, squarish end (quite attractive, I think)that has been handed down to only one of my cousins.Cheekbones appear the same...not sure about the mouth - possibly.WPA had a very angular jawline somewhat like Harry in your picture but more severe....however he also had a short beard.
I have a picture of a Mary Gowdy from Illinois that was sent to me from a cousin on the Roelofsson side.It was probably taken around 1850; however, we have no idea who she was.
