I thought there might be a response by now. Until there is proof, I am saying that Alexander Gowens, b: 1784 in Virginia did NOT have the first name of "William". Here's what I think is happening: Researchers like myself are confusing Alexander and his grandson William Alexander as being one and the same in spite of different birth dates and places. Other researches are copying this misinformation as gosple without verifying any of it. This in turn creates a domino effect of bad info being transferred from tree to tree, and makes it difficult if not impossible for newcomers to get the right info. I am posting this because of the excessive number of trees and forum messages I have seen that contain this erroneous info.
