Grandstaff Brickwall
I am researching George W. Grandstaff and have hit a brickwall with him.
George can be found in the 1870 Federal Census living in Truro Township, Knox County, Illinois with his wife Matilda Ann (Kirby).
Next he can be found in Franklin Township, Fremont County, Iowa in the 1880 Federal Census with his wife and five of his children, Mary, Margraet, Ida, Clifton & Francis.
In both cases it says he was born about 1846 in Missouri, and in the 1880 Census it says his father was born in Kentucky.
On his Marriage License it says his last name was Grindstaff but all his children used the last name of Grandstaff. The census records do not help in the last name spelling however.
Also, there is a family legend that George W. Grandstaff was either full blooded Indian or half. However, I have not been able to make this connection.
Thanks,
Tim McCord
