"MARIE L. LAVERTY
AUGUSTA, Maine — Marie Lucie (Gravel) Laverty, 84, formerly of Portland and Norway, died Monday (7-1-02) at Glenridge Rehabilitation and Nursing Home. She was the sister of John Gravel of Greenfield, Mass.
Born in Wallagrass, Sept. 20, 1917, she was the daughter of Jean B. and Catherine I. (Michaud) Gravel.
Laverty was an accomplished seamstress, making clothes, quilts, dolls and teddy bears. She also created dollhouse furniture and baskets. She enjoyed sketching and painting.
Her husband, Clevis O. Laverty, predeceased her.
Besides her brother, she leaves two daughters, Joyce L. Miller of Dallas, Texas, and Nancy E. Strubbe of East Winthrop; another brother, Gerald Gravel of Houlton; two sisters, Laurine Tomah of Houlton and Elsie Fiori of California; three granddaughters; a grandson; two great-grandsons and many nieces and nephews.
There are no calling hours.
Internment will be at Woodlawn Cemetery, Westbrook. A private memorial service will be held at a later date.
Memorial contributions are suggested to Shriners Hospital for Children, 51 Blossom St., Boston, MA 02114.
Knowlton & Hewins Funeral Home, Augusta, is handling arrangements."
