I can confirm that Joseph Gravel is the son of Andre Gravel and Marie Souliere. Source: parish records of Saint John the Baptist Catholic Church, Keeseville, Clinton County, New York; volume 1, page 50, baptismal record #85 in 1854; available on LDS FHL microfilm #1450720 (gives parents' names; says birth was two evenings before the baptism; assumed birth was at Peru, New York, where the family lived, according to the 1860, 1870 and 1880 U.S. Census.

Andre Gravel was born and baptised in L'Enfant Jesus parish, Pointe-aux-Trembles, Ile de Montreal, Quebec on 9 August 1818, son of Joseph Gravel and Marie-Clemence Duval. Source: parish records of L'Enfant Jesus Catholic Church, Pointe-aux-Trembles, Ile de Montreal, Quebec; volume 11, page 5, baptismal record #42 in 1818; available on LDS FHL microfilm #1018236 (gives parents' names; says birth was the same day as the baptism).
