Hi. This is probably the family in 1871:

1871 Census of Canada
about Edouard Gravelle
Name:        Edouard Gravelle
Gender:        Male
Age:        30
Birth Year:        abt 1841
Birth Place:        Quebec
Marital Status:        Married
Religion:        Catholic
Origin:        French
Province:        Quebec
District:        Ottawa West
District Number:        93
Subdistrict:        Aylmer
Subdistrict Number:        c
Neighbors:        View others on page
Household Members:
Name        Age
Edouard Gravelle        30 b. 1841 Que.
Marguerite Gravelle        22 b. 1849 Que.
Amedee Gravelle        2 b. 1869 Que.
Edouard Gravelle        7 months b. 1870 Que.

Living right next door is a Noel family, including Jean Baptiste Noel, widower, age 68, b. 1803 Quebec. This could be the father of Marguerite.

The problem with finding Edouard & Marguerite's marriage is that the digitized records of Aylmer, i.e. Aylmer (Gatineau and St-Paul), are often too faint to read, so I didn't find a marriage for them. I did find a couple of other things, however:

Edouard Gravelle, husband of Marguerite Noel, died 4 Apr 1900, bur. 6 Apr 100 Aylmer (Gatineau and St-Paul), Quebec, at the age of 60.

Marguerite Noel, widow of Edouard Gravelle, died 24 Apr 1905, bur. 26 Apr 1905 Aylmer (Gatineau and St-Paul), Quebec at the age of 55.

I did find the baptism of a child who appears to be their first-born:

Emilie Victoire Gravel, b. 1 Apr 1869, bap. 3 Apr 1869 Aylmer (Gatineau and St-Paul), Quebec, daughter of Edouard & Marguerite Noel - godparents- Francois? Gravel & Marguerite Gibeau.

Very often the godparents of the 1st born child are very close relatives, such as the grandparents of the baby. Unfortunately the parish register doesn't state the relationship of the godparents to the baby.

However, I did find Marguerite Noel in the 1861 Census living with her parents:

1861 Census of Canada
about Marguerite Noel
Name:        Marguerite Noel
Gender:        Female
Age:        13
Birth Year:        1848
Birthplace:        Lower Canada
Marital Status:        Single
Home in 1861:        Ottawa, Canada East
Religion:        R. Catholic
Household Members:
Name        Age
Jean Baptiste Noel 33 b. 1828 Quebec
Marguerite Gibeau 37 b. 1824 Quebec (wife)
Marguerite Noel 13 b. 1848 Que. **
Jean Noel 11 b. 1850 Que.
Louis Noel 10 b. 1851 Que.
George Noel 1 b. 1860 Que.

So, it looks fairly clear that the parents of Marguerite Noel are Jean-Baptiste & Marguerite Gibeau.

Here is the entire family that was living next door to the Gravelles in 1871:

1871 Census of Canada
about George Nol
Name:        George Nol
[George Noel]
Gender:        Male
Age:        10
Birth Year:        abt 1861
Birth Place:        Quebec
Religion:        Catholic
Origin:        French
Province:        Quebec
District:        Ottawa West
District Number:        93
Subdistrict:        Aylmer
Subdistrict Number:        c
Neighbors:        View others on page
Household Members:
Name        Age
Jean Bte Noel        45 b. 1826 Que.
Marguerite Noel 48 b. 1823 Que.
Jean Noel        20 b. 1851 Que.
Louis Nol        18 b. 1853 Que.
George Nol        10 b. 1861 Que.
Joseph Nol        7 b. 1864 Que.
Jean Gibeau        77 -widower- b. 1794 Que.
Jeanbte Noel        68 -widower- b. 1803 Que.

So it looks like next door are the parents of Marguerite Noel AND her grandfathers on both sides. Too bad I can't find her marriage.

So here is what her parent's marriage would look like if found:

Jean Baptiste Noel (Jean-Baptiste & ____)
m. abt 1846
Marguerite Gibeau (Jean & ____)

And here it is:

Jean Baptiste Noel (Jean-Baptiste & Angelique Roi)
m. 6 Mar 1848 Missions d'Aylmer Registre (St-Paul & St-Frs-Gatineau & St-Etienne de Chickam), Quebec
Marguerite Gibeau (Jean-Marie & Therise Bruyere)

So, that puts you back another generation on the Noel side.

Here is the next marriage in the line:

Jean-Baptiste Noel (Jean & Marie Cader)
m. 1 Oct 1821 Contrecoeur Ste-Trinit, Vercheres County, Quebec
Marie Angelique Roi (Pierre & Marie Amie dite Lusignant)

All of this info I gleaned from the Quebec Vital and Church Records (Drouin Collection), 1621-1967 at and the Canadian census records at the same site. So, I highly recommend a subscription to if you really want to pursue your French-Canadian family history.

Hope this helps. Annie
