I have a puzzling mess with a Graver line which may be connected to
Lafayette, but I am as yet uncertain of the connection.
The 1850 Franklin Twp., Carbon census shows Peter Graver with wife Anna
Maria Klotz. Her parents were Christian Klotz and Elizabeth McDaniel,
Elizabeth's parents were Robert and Elizabeth Hicks/Johnson of Mahoning Twp.
Carbon County, Robert being born in Maine in 1756. There are no children
listed with them.
By the 1870 census there is a Louis Graver, age 7 with Peter Graver and
Anna. According to a correspondent the information on this couple is as
follows:
Anna Maria Klotz of East Penn T., PA
b. 30 May 1824
She died 15 Feb 1871 of typhoid fever
married Peter Graver bef. 1860
Peter b. 14 Oct 1810,baptized 01/13/1811
He lived in Franklin T., Carbon Co., PA
d. aft. 1880, son of Henrich Graver and Elisabeth Ochs
Peter and Anna's children were baptized at St. Jacobs of Weissport by Rev.
J.E. Freeman; the death records of wife and children are from the records of
Rev. Bauers of Lehighton Lutheran.
This census may be him, but ages would be too young,
Year:1870
State: PennsylvaniaCounty: Carbon
Township: FranklinPost Office: Weissport
Roll: M593_1320Page:72Image: 145
Graver, Peter, 52, farmer, land value 1000, property value 175,
Anna, 44, keeping house,
Louis, 7
Of course there is no designation such as wife, son or daughter etc. next to
any of the names on this page. I do know that Anna's brother Ammon Klotz
lived in Franklin Twp., and the Carbon County History states that Anna
Klotz, d/o Christian and Elizabeth McDaniel married a Mr. Graver, and at
that they moved to Franklin Twp., of which Weissport was part. There were
numerous family members of Elizabeth McDaniel in the area.
However, without further proof of the relationship there is always the
possibility of this Louis, (or as you can imagine the name was probably
written as Louis but was really Lewis), being a nephew or cousin of Peter,
so I haven't definitely stuck him in the genealogy. With Anna Klotz Graver
dying in 1871, and with finding Peter seeming to be re-married to Susanna
since that is how his wife shows, he being b. abt. 1817, and that is
comparable with Anna Klotz' age as a wife and consistent with the age in the
other census records, (one-eyed, guessing, riding past fast census takers
cause us a lot of problems), that is my best guess.
Then the 1890 census burns to a crisp!
By 1900 there is L. F. Graver, est. birth year 1860 as follows, with
continuing census records:
L F Graver
Home in 1900: Towamensing, Carbon, Pennsylvania

Any idea if this Lafayette could be Louis Graver who was with Peter Graver
and wife Anna Klotz in Franklin Twp.? Louis doesn't seem to show as either Louis or Lewis that I can find in subsequent census records. I'm stumped with this one!
Sincerely,
Judy McElderry
