John Gray
My great-grandfather, John Gray, was born in Ireland, approx in 1851. I beleive he came to New York on the ship "China", possibly with an older sister or cousin, Anne.
He married Kate Fitzpatrick in 1877 in NYC.
In the 1880 census, his name is spelled GREY, although on his wedding and death certificates is is spelled GRAY.
His first child was Mary, who later died.
They had several more children, one of whom was
my grandfather Benjamin, named for John's father in Ireland.
John died in 1890, when he was only 38-40, in Bellevue Hospital, NYC.He is buried in Calvary Cemetery in Queens.
His wife remarried a man called John Collins, and had several more children.
Interestingly, she died in 1939, and is buried in the cemetery with John Gray.
If anyone has any connections to this line of the Gray family, I would love to hear from you.
