My interest is in determining who Jean was before she married John Craig; when she was Jean _____. I've reviewed enough court records over the last couple months that I'm convinced without doubts that John Gray who died in Monroe County in 1801 was the son of John Gray sr. of Augusta County. From searching through Augusta County records for John Craig's estate, a guess can be made about who his widow was related to. Making comparisons between Gray records, John Craig's, Thompson, Hutchinson, Greenlee, Lyle, Davidson, etc... it becomes very clear that John Gray (who was married to the widow of John Craig) is related to John Gray Sr. You'll note that in Chalkley's that John Gray was married about Feb 1759. This fits well with the known ages of John & Jean Gray's children. He was the only adult John Gray in the area at that time, and he was the same person who married the widow of John Craig. After that time he appears in court records pertaining to both his family and people who were in John Craig's estate(relatives of Jean). These relationships continue until his death in 1801, and can be witnessed for your self by reviewing court records for Greenbrier, Monroe, Augusta counties.
