Thanks very much Jon,
I've been in contact with a John Greenacre who has a theory that Charles was the son of Robert and Ann and was born in Potter Heigham. Checking the transcription site link you suggsted I can now see why he has this theory. There are only two Charles' mentioned, one born at approx. the same time as the one in my tree and the other born about 40 years too late. So, it looks like we may have cracked it (subject to checking physical records).
