Several came from Trowbridge, Wiltshire at various times from about 1859 to Rockville
(now Vernon) CT, and to Woonsocket, RI. In Rockville LYDIA married a MARK
HOOK, and in Woonsocket ANNIE married WILLIAM EARLE. Lydia and Annie were
cosuins. As usual there are hundreds of these folks, many from Somerset, but not many of
this line left, even in Wiltshire now. Want to coordinate info. We have a Greenland cousin
in Trowbridge who does work for us but has drawn a blank over BENJAMIN
GEENLAND who seems to have dropped off the planet.
Thanks, Bill

Do you happen to know anything about the Greenland's that came over earlier? Like late
1600 to early 1700's. I can see from the IGI records on LDS site familysearch.com that
many came from Somerset, as you mentioned, is there somewhere to find out about these
people?
Thanks, Lori Greenland

My g-grandfather's family (i.e. the Greenland branch) originated in Dunwich, East Anglia -
now under the sea, so that was quite a while back! Since then, it's been mainly East Anglia
and Sussex...
If you get back before 1860, let me know - I've done a complete tree back to there, and
there's no descendants in Yorks, but there may be a link earlier than that.

I've only started searching for my greater family but I can tell you of my close family...
I'll try to get back to you with dates,
Jan Greenland is my grandmother and is married to Brian Greenland. He's no longer alive.
They're both in Norwich, Norfolk.
They had two kids, Anne and Paul.
Anne was married to Michael(I don't know his last name).
They had two kids, Lindsey and Mathew.
Paul was married to Jane Dunbar.
They had two kids, Samuel(me) and Katharine.
I live in Norwich, Norfolk, with my mum and sisters(she remarried).
Paul lives in Cumbria with Fiona and their two sons, Andrew and Martin.
Is this any help to you. If so, where can I get a printout of the rest of the family(preferably
in 'tree form'?)?
Sam,

Thanks for the help, although I'm afraid it doesn't seem to hook up with the bits of the
family that I can find out about - my grandfather's family seem to have left Norfolk quite a
few generations ago (he was brought up in Sussex).
I'm trying to put my sections together on a computer format at the moment - I'll let you
know when I get anywhere!

Do you have a Richard Greenland b about 1714-1720 in your file. Your note suggests that
you've done research over a long period of time. Do you have a history of the surname in
England? We find many in Somerset and Rhode are they all related?

Don't have anything that far back - as I mentioned, my research stops back in the
mid-1800s. We don't have any other background beyond immediate ancestors, who moved
from East Anglia to Sussex at around the turn of the century.

You should be able to find your information from birth records, church, and the English
census. From records that someone helped me with English records give much
information.

Augustine Greenland, 18C London lawyer

I'm researching the legal affairs of the composer John Christian Bach (the London Bach),
and I'd like information about his attorney, Augustine Greenland. Greenland came from
Kent and lived in Newman St, central London, from the mid 1770s till his death in 1804.
He became a Commissioner in Bankruptcy and attorney to the Royal Society of
Musicians, and he owned numbers of paintings, including a Gainsborough now in the
National Gallery of Art, Washington. Does anyone have any suggestions about how or
where I can find out more about him?
