William and Jane (born Scotland perhaps Castlecary parish
but not Liberton) had number of sons all born Scotland,
family immigrated on Dolphin from Greenock 1753 to Maine.
Some of family settled 1763 on Deer Isle. Left for NB
1783, but kept lands in D.I. and resettled there after
oldest gen passed. Given names repeated among cousins
frequently so one gets confused quickly. My grandfather,
Charles R. Greenlaw (Wm & Jane, Jonathan, Richard, Joseph,
Joseph) researched lots in period 1920 to his death 1963
and produced many charts which have been updated and
corrected by others. Contact Stephen Snell for latest
info on access to them (on-line somewhere). CRG's middle
son, late Dr. Colin Torrey Greenlaw, carried on by trying
to isolate origin of family in Scotland. He found Liberton
family but names etc didn't fit. He later found Castlecary
families where names of immigrants do seem to fit - at
least fit in part given infant mortality and incomplete
records. I have somewhere the Castlecary info in detail.
Dr. CTG died in 1991. His stepdaughter has his files since
I did not have space for them.
Descendants of this Wm & Jane and sons are fairly well
tabulated - contact Snell who has some postings in this
series.
