As best I can tell, these two represent distinct families. I cannot account for the tradition that Daniel, grandfather of Harris Greeno, was of French origin (this is the Daniel who was b. 1752 and married Lydia Rice). There are alternative traditions in the same family that derive him from Boston, of English origin, and a strong case can be made for his placement in the family of Robert Greenough of Rowley, Mass. By this reconstruction, his father moved to Canada after his birth, and perhaps this vague Canadian connection evolved into first a French-Canadian and then a French origin, but this is nothing more than speculation.
